Built on Water. Powered by People.
Sailing is the vehicle; human development is the destination. Sail Better is a Caribbean-led development platform that uses the water to build people, communities and a connected region.
This is not only a sailing project. It is a Caribbean development pathway, built on water, powered by people, and ready to scale.
A learn-to-sail session is water-safety and confidence-building. A donated boat is access redistributed to where it creates the most opportunity. A coaching course is local capacity that renews itself. A Para-Inclusive athlete on the start line is dignity, independence and belonging made visible.
The operating model
A Connected Network, Not a Hierarchy
SailBetter works through a connected network of delivery platforms, foundations, schools, clubs, national bodies, coaches and international partners.
SailBetter does not replace local organisations. We strengthen and connect them.

How the model works
Theory of Change
How everyday inputs become long-term, regional impact: the logic that connects a donated boat to a connected Caribbean.
Inputs
Donated boats, local sites, coaches, volunteers, partners, families, athletes and international sailing knowledge.
Activities
Learn-to-sail and swim-safety, camps and clinics, coach education, Para-Inclusive sailing, regatta support and equipment redistribution.
Outputs
Sailors trained, swim participants, boats redeployed, coaches developed, camps delivered, countries engaged and athletes entering international events.
Outcomes
More access, stronger confidence, safer water users, more inclusive sailing communities, better coaches and stronger athlete pathways.
Long-Term Impact
A connected Caribbean sailing ecosystem that develops people, expands access, strengthens local programmes, creates educational and professional opportunities, and produces sailors, coaches and leaders capable of succeeding locally, regionally and internationally.
Global alignment
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Sail Better's work maps directly to seven of the seventeen SDGs, each with proof already on the water.
Good Health & Well-Being
Swim and water-safety training, physical activity, and confidence through sport and belonging.
Proof so far: 600+ people taught to swim through the Foundation's volunteer-driven programme.
Quality Education
Learn-to-sail pathways, coach and instructor education, and scholarships that pair sport with schooling.
Proof so far: Thousands introduced to sailing; a coach-development pathway; scholarship access created with schools and foundations.
Gender Equality
Open access regardless of sex or gender, and deliberate development of female sailors, instructors and coaches.
Proof so far: Access model open to all, with female participation across community programmes.
Reduced Inequalities
Access for under-resourced sailors and unfunded nations; Para-Inclusive sailors inside the same pathway as everyone else.
Proof so far: Capital directed mainly to athletes with fewer resources; donated boats redistributed; first Caribbean Para-Inclusive steps taken.
Climate Action
Wind-powered, low-carbon sport with ocean and climate literacy built into every clinic as the model scales.
Proof so far: Wind-powered training as standard; equipment reused and redeployed rather than discarded.
Life Below Water
Young people who learn on the water become its stewards; ocean literacy is part of the experience.
Proof so far: Thousands connected to the ocean through community sailing across the region.
Partnerships for the Goals
Schools, clubs, foundations, national federations and international partners working together rather than apart.
Proof so far: Foundation, Academy and Sail Better delivering a shared international regatta with Lyford Cay and the Bahamas Sailing Association.
Global alignment
In Step with World Sailing Priorities
Participation & Development
Thousands introduced to sailing; multi-island camps and clinics.
Sustainability
Donated fleet redeployed toward youth and community use.
Inclusion & Para-Inclusive Sailing
First Caribbean Para-Inclusive representation steps; SailAbility-style coaching.

A monitor-to-instructor-to-coach pathway and Board of Sailing Instructor Exams.
Athlete Pathway & Performance
Junior Pan American Games gold; ILCA 4/6/7 pathway; Bahamas Nationals.
Governance & Safeguarding
Clear roles across the platform, with safeguarding policy as the next formal step.
Regional Collaboration
Cross-island delivery with Lyford Cay partners and the Bahamas Sailing Association.
Measurable impact
Where We Are, and Where We're Going
What the model has already shown, and the 2026 to 2029 targets we aim to reach with partners. Targets are directional and confirmed as reporting systems formalise.
What support unlocks
We Are Not Asking Partners to Fund an Idea
We are asking them to help scale a working model. Each area of support converts directly into access, capability and opportunity.
Equipment & Maintenance
Keep the donated fleet on the water and growing: boats, spares, storage and maintenance.
Para-Inclusive Development
Adapted equipment, inclusive-coach training, accessible venues and a regional Para calendar.
Coach Education
Fund the monitor-to-coach pathway so the region develops its own coaches.
Youth Access & Scholarships
Scholarship places that pair sailing with education for young people who would otherwise never get the chance.
Regional Camps & Competition
An annual calendar of camps, clinics and regattas that connects islands.
Academy Site & Facilities
Long-term site access, storage, water access and safety infrastructure.
Sustainability & Ocean Education
Ocean literacy and sustainable-event standards in every activity.
Data, Safeguarding & Governance
The systems that make the model trustworthy: safeguarding, impact reporting and clean governance.
Sponsorship tiers from $2,500 to $50,000+ are outlined on the Athlete Pathway page.
Responsible growth
Professional, Safe, Measurable, Repeatable
Scaling a working model responsibly matters more than scaling it fast. These are the standards the model is being built on.
Operating today
Daily training environments, camps and clinics, regatta support, coach development, scholarship-supported athletes and an active regional fleet.
What the proof shows
Grassroots access and high performance can share one system, and a local ecosystem can connect directly to international opportunity.
Being formalised
Published safeguarding and selection policies, partnership agreements, coach certification records and verified impact data.
The ambition
A connected Caribbean sailing ecosystem, professional, safe, measurable and repeatable across islands.
From first access to international performance, SailBetter connects the people, programmes and institutions needed to build complete sailing pathways.
